Digital Sliotar – Ensuring Authenticity and Consistency in Hurling
DMF Systems is proud to introduce the Digital Sliotar, a breakthrough in sports technology designed to authenticate sliotars and ensure compliance with official GAA specifications. Developed in partnership with the GAA, the Digital Sliotar harnesses advanced NFC (Near Field Communication) technology to verify sliotar authenticity and performance consistency, both on and off the pitch.
Trusted by the GAA – Trialled in Championship Play
The Digital Sliotar is currently being trialled in the GAA Inter-County Under 20 Hurling Championship, with its first official use in the opening round of the Leinster Championship on 2nd April. This initiative marks a significant step forward in modernising the game of hurling, promoting fairness, and enhancing the player experience.
How It Works
Each Digital Sliotar contains an embedded NFC tag, uniquely identified using GS1 standards. When scanned pitch side using a dedicated mobile app, referees and GAA officials can instantly validate that the sliotar conforms to the GAA’s rigorous technical and ethical standards. This ensures:
-
Performance consistency across all sliotars used in play
-
Transparency and traceability in manufacturing
-
Ease of verification for match officials using smartphones
Built for the Game
The Digital Sliotar has undergone comprehensive testing, both in the lab and on the field. These trials confirmed the tag’s ability to endure repeated high-impact use under match conditions, without compromising sliotar integrity or performance.
“The Smart Sliotar is a significant advancement for hurling. Ensuring that all sliotars meet the same standard will deliver a more consistent experience for players and supporters alike.”
