GeneCIS Clinical Portal

GeneCIS ePrescription enhances the hospital discharge workflow process. It minimises the need for data capture by clinicians and reduces Medication Errors (ME’s) and Adverse Drug Events (ADE’s). Incorporating medication reconciliation at admission; medication changes that occur during the inpatient stay may be applied by the clinical team. ePrescription is a module of GeneCIS.

The To Take Out (TTO) prescription is prepared automatically at discharge using the reconciled and updated medication list; no transcription is required, further reducing errors. Prescriptions may be printed or delivered electronically via HL7 messaging. Electronic prescriptions improve clinical care delivery and enhance quality of care for the patient.

Key Benefits of ePrescription

For Pharmacists

Facilitates oversight and clinical input by a Pharmacist where required.

Saves Times

Medications on the Discharge Summary automatically transfer to the prescription.

For Nurses and Doctors

Improved communication and transparency around modifications made to the patient’s prescription.

For Patients

Prescriptions are legible. Prescriptions may be delivered electronically to the GP and to a designated Pharmacy in the future. This will facilitate speedy dispensing, reducing waiting time and medication start time.

Improved patient safety

Medication reconciliation results in fewer medication errors at Hospital Discharge as does the provision of an electronic prescription.

Cost Effective

Cost Savings are gained across the care delivery system. Transcription and legibility errors are reduced significantly. A comprehensive audit and prescription validation all lead to more efficiency.

Legibility Issues

An Electronic Prescription avoids the legibility issues that erodes Pharmacist and GP’s time requiring them to follow up with the hospital to seek clarification. Where integrated, prescriptions may be uploaded automatically into the GP’s and the Pharmacy’s system.

Hospitals

Adds additional functionality to the Discharge workflow to help reduce ME’s & ADE’s. It also eliminates the need for transcription of medications from the Discharge Summary to the ‘Take Home’ prescription. The result is a more efficient Hospital Discharge process.

Pharmacy

Facilitates the secure printing and transmission of prescriptions to the pharmacy. The structure of the prescription reduces queries and enhances the exchange of information between Hospital Clinicians and the Pharmacy.
